Protecting your stone with a sealer and keeping it clean will help keep your stone in great shape. At any given time, all stone and can absorb spills and stains if not properly treated. Many foods, drinks, and chemicals contain acids that can harm or discolor stone surfaces.

Porcelain is a denser and more durable tile than ceramic. It resists chips and scratches, and its durability makes it a good choice for hallways, bathrooms, and outdoor patios. Porcelain can crack if you don’t choose the correct PEI rating.

Especially in high-traffic, frequently used areas devoted to cooking and meal prep, natural stone is a great choice because it is easy to clean and maintain, can withstand high temperatures, and is resistant to stains.

A kitchen island should, at a minimum, offer additional counter space and storage (either through cabinets or open shelving). Depending on the size and layout, you may be able to add seating to the island, as well as appliances and fixtures—sinks, cooktops, dishwashers, trash pulls, built-in wine racks and refrigerators, etc.
